Great article on Rail Transit
Despite the fact that Honolulu has already voted on rail, it looks like Charles Djou and the folks at Stop Rail Now have rustled enough feathers to put the issue back on the ballot this November. (We will be voting on whether steel on steel is the best technology for the rail transit system in Hawaii.)
Great article by James Koshiba and Andrew Aoki extending cautious support for rail on Oahu.

It's true. It is an enormous enormous cost and if we don't use it (which could happen if doesn't go through Waikiki and UH-Manoa!), it could be a huge waste of tax payer dollars. Living near the projected corridor, I will probably be hard hit by the noise generated (Could it really be louder than the ambulances at 2 a.m. in the morning?!). Still, I have to say I support it. We should've built the stupid thing when the issue first came up in the early 90s. According to Hanneman's reports, federal money will be helping to pay for a good percentage of the project and the extra jobs created could help boost the slumping local economy.
UH-Manoa went back to school today and the traffic was straight up "bad". It will be worse if we do nothing. And sorry, but the buses are too slow.
